The Echo exclusive photos

Exclusive pictures of Jesse Bradford, Iza Calzado, Carlos Leon, and New York City in the Hollywood remake of the Filipino thriller Sigaw, straight from Yam Laranas, the director of the film, himself. It looks like the movie is coming along well, and the movie should be out by next year.

Lea Salonga in Les Miserables

Lea Salonga, whose recent triumphant return to Broadway in Les Miserables has sparked such a great interest from the public in New York City that the show has been extended from it's original May 2007 all the way to March 2008, recently guest starred on PhilMusic.com's podcast. The Tony-award winning Filipina actress was visiting Manila for a two-week vacation from her regular Broadway gig, playing Fantine in the current revival of Les Miserables. Lea and her husband turn out to be huge fans of the OPM band scene! She talks about bands they're into like Imago, the Dawn, Sandwich, Cambio, Bamboo, and Paramita. She also gives us a peek into how she prepares for performances and recordings, and her near-telepathic musical connection with her brother, arranger/conductor Gerard Salonga. Finally, she offers inspiring tips for up and coming musicians who want to make it in the business.

Filipino singer Enrique Iglesias

Filipino singer Enrique Iglesias is back on the top of the charts with his latest album Insomniac and with a Top 5 Single "Do You Know".

“Though I was born in Madrid, my being a Filipino is very strong in me,” says Enrique. “When I was growing up, my mom (Isabel Preysler) would always talk about the Philippines. She taught us the things that are very important to Filipino culture such as family, being hospitable to guests, and fear of God. I even remember the Filipino dishes she used to whip up.” - Manila Standard, March 18, 2004

Enrique Iglesias Talks About Being Filipino

"I think it must be harder to be female than male. Apart from having to deal with period pains, pregnancy and child birth, I think women are more emotional than men. It's not just that they find it easier to talk about emotions, I think they actually feel emotions more deeply."

"I'm as comfortable with women as I am with men. Of my closest friends, three are men and two are women.

"I learned a lot about women from my mother and my nanny, but I don't think you really get to know what makes women tick until you have a romantic relationship."

"Like most men, I'm not very good at romantic gestures."

Monique Lhuillier Filipina Designer

Monique Lhuillier: The Filipino influence was very present at the 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California through Filipina star designer Monique Lhuillier.

America Ferrera, who won for Best Actress in a comedy for Ugly Betty, sported a deep blue Monique Lhullier with Lorraine Schwartz chandelier diamond earrings, which she wore beautifully during her poignant acceptance speech. The Filipina designer obviously has amazing taste, for America Ferrera was also named by People Magazine as one of the Best Dressed celebs for that night.

Kate Walsh, of "Grey's Anatomy" married movie exec Alex Young on Saturday, reports PEOPLE. Walsh, 39, wore a custom-made Monique Lhullier wedding gown as she and Young, 36, exchanged their vows at the Ojai Presbyterian Church in Ojai, located just north of Los Angeles. This is not the first time that Kate Walsh has worn a gown by the Filipina designer. She previously wore one of Lhuillier's gowns during a Mercedes Benz Fashion Show earlier this year.

Jesse Bradford The Echo

So I just remembered that the Hollywood version of Sigaw, titled The Echo, is coming out soon. The project was first noticed and brought to fruition by Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, and now it's in full swing and in the process of filming in Canada. The part of Richard Gutierrez will be played by Jesse Bradford, and Iza Calzado will reprise her role in the Hollywood version, which is fantastic. It was gonna be played by this British actress, but Iza will be playing it now. Jesse Bradford watched the original version in Tagalog, and told Yam Laranas that he couldn't believe how scary it was. Yam is the skilled director of the original movie and the new Hollywood remake, and the first ever Filipino to become part of Steven Spielberg's multi-million dollar production company Dreamworks. This movie is putting the Philippines directly on the map in Hollywood. We'll be posting more updates here as soon as we hear them from Yam.
